The origins of the universe:
Sikhs believe the universe was created by God (Waheguru), God created the earth and all life upon it. Sikhism is based on the idea of the ‘Oneness of Creation’. Before creation there was no earth, sky, sun and life; only God existed, then God created everything by a single word. God is responsible for all of creation and everything on the earth belongs to God. God is in charge of all life and without his will (hukam) nothing can exist, change or develop. God cares for the world and looks after it and protects it, there is not one part he doesn't care for. God causes the life and death of everything. Sikhs believe that all creatures lead they lives under Gods rule.
''Even creatures in rocks and stones are well provided for. Birds who fly thousands of miles away leaving their young ones behind know that they would be sustained and taught to fend for themselves by God.'' -Guru Arjan
Creation:
You could argue that there is a parallel between the Big Bang theory and the Sikh belief that God created the universe from nothing. Both modern science and the Guru Granth Sahib agree that there are innumerable galaxies in the universe and that there are many solar systems in each which contain stars and planets, which are in a constant motion.
However, Sikhs believe that the universe was created by God, and in the end will be re-absorbed into God.
"When the Creator became manifest, all creatures of the earth assumed various shapes. But when you draw creation within yourself, all embodied beings are absorbed in you."
Some scientists argue that the universe which was created by the Big Bang will eventually be reversed and at some point in time will start to contract/reduce, eventually imploding into itself which scientists call the 'Big Crunch'.
Many Sikhs today do not see modern science as a threat to their religious belief, and therefore not a concern.
